Get started

To complete an ECDL Program, a candidate must first register with an Authorized ECDL Test Center.

People typically begin the ECDL certification process through enrolling in a training course and/or exams. They may do this in a personal capacity or as part of their training requirement as, for example, an employee of an organization.  Often the training course may take place within an authorized test centre; however in many cases training and testing for ECDL may take place in different locations.

Certification Process
In order to register for ECDL testing, each candidate must obtain an ECDL Skills Card from an authorized test centre. The skills card is the document which records the individual's registration, and which is updated by the authorized test centre as candidates pass the exam in each ECDL module.

Once all the exams have been successfully completed and the skills card is complete, the authorized test centre returns the skills card to the national operator who will then issue the certificate to the candidate.  An ECDL certificate is awarded to candidates who complete 7 ECDL modules.

ECDL exams can only be taken at authorized test centers. Each candidate may begin the process of acquisition of any Certificate ECDL at an ECDL authorized testing center and complete it in another center in Albania if necessary. Candidates may take the exams even abroad however we strongly recommend to consult ECDL Albania before taking this step.

The ECDL Albania is responsible for authorizing test centres and auditing them on a regular basis to ensure they meet ECDL Foundation’s quality assurance standards.

How much Training is Required?
Training is not compulsory, however most candidates choose to complete a training course prior to taking their exam. Some candidates may feel competent enough in one area to forego training and move directly to testing, whereas others may require full training before testing.  The amount of training needed will depend on the candidate’s existing skills levels prior to commencing training and the type of training - for example, instructor-led or e-learning.  Typically the average training time for those without prior experience is approximately 20 -25 hours per module.

How long are the Tests?
Each ECDL Core module is tested separately with each test lasting no longer than 45 minutes. For every module testing there are 35-36 questions. The tests can be attempted in any order. Exams for ECDL Advanced modules differ in number of questions and timing.
